A PEDERSEN + LENNARD GIFT GUIDE

November 06, 2026

Season's keepings : Gifts made in Cape Town, built to outlast the wrapping paper.

Some gifts get a polite "oh, how lovely" and a one-way ticket to the back of the cupboard. Others get used before the wrapping paper has even hit the bin. This guide is all about the second kind.
Every piece here was designed and made in our own Cape Town workshop, which makes these Christmas gift ideas for the home a little different from the usual: locally made, built for daily use, and sturdy enough to be handed down. We've sorted them by the people on your list, from the friend who always hosts to the one who just got the keys to their first place. Most come in under R1,000, and if you'd like more options at that price, browse our gifts under R1,000. Gifts worth keeping, in other words. Season's keepings, if you like.

1. DUO ICE BUCKET – R1,195
Our newest piece is made for a South African Christmas, where lunch moves outside and lasts all afternoon. The powder-coated aluminium DUO Ice Bucket holds two bottles of wine, one of bubbly or six beers, and comes in five bright colours, from Lemon Yellow to Dark Cherry. Set it on a DUO Round Tray (below) and the table stays dry.

For the host who always has people round

December in South Africa means long tables, late lunches and a house that's rarely empty. These are the pieces that make hosting easier, and look good doing it.

2. DUO ROUND TRAY – from R730
A tray with a rolled edge for an easy grip and hidden feet that make it look as if it's floating. Use it for drinks on the stoep, snacks on the coffee table or a display of favourite things. It comes in medium (310mm) or large (410mm), in nine colours.

3. STRATA WOODEN CUTTING BOARD – R1,030
Named after the Cape Fold Mountains, the Strata board is laminated from solid oak off-cuts so the edge grain shows in layers, like rock strata. It's double-sided, with a juice groove on one side for carving the gammon, and a beeswax finish that's safe for food.

4. STRATA ROUND WOODEN TRAY – from R645
The cutting board's round sibling, made the same way from recovered solid oak. Simple enough to suit any kitchen, it works as a cheese board on the day and a fruit tray every day after. Available in medium (270mm) and large (320mm).

5. PIZZA ROUND BOARD – R750
For the friend whose Friday-night pizza has become a whole personality. This solid oak paddle carries pizza from oven to table, and doubles as a cutting surface or charcuterie board. Add the Pizza Cutter (R920), with its oak handle and properly sharp stainless steel blade, and you've got the full set.

6. HALO CANDLE HOLDERS – R620
Each holder is a single bend of powder-coated steel that echoes the glow of a candle flame. You get three to a set, in ten colours, so it's easy to mix a few sets down the middle of a long festive table (candles not included, but you knew that).

7. OSAKA CANDLE HOLDER – R1,160
A playful take on the classic candelabra: curved steel tube on a rounded solid oak base. It was the official Decorex Award design in 2022 and deserves its place as a dining-table centerpiece.

8. KIRU TOAST RACK – R645
For the Boxing Day brunch crowd. A textured oak base inspired by Japanese knife work, with bent cane loops that hold toast of any thickness. A small, slightly unexpected gift for the true toast connoisseur.

Gifts for design lovers who work (and read) from home

For the person whose desk is part office, part gallery. These small, colourful steel pieces bring order without looking like office supplies.

9. STATIONERY CADDY – R685
Six compartments, birch ply dividers and a ply handle, so the pens can follow whoever needs them, from the study to the kitchen table. It's also the neatest answer to arts-and-crafts chaos on a kids' table.

10. BOOKENDS – R570
A set of two in bent, powder-coated steel, in eleven colours from Dusty Pink to Textured Black. Small enough to tuck under the tree, and they'll keep a bookshelf in order for decades.

11. FOLD NESTING TRAYS – R795
Three steel trays with cork inserts that stack neatly on a desk or spread out around the house. The large one takes A4 paper; the small one catches the bits and pieces that tend to go missing. Choose from three colourways.

Housewarming gift ideas for a first home (or a fresh start)

A new place comes with bare walls and no system for anything yet. These gifts solve the small daily problems first.

12. STOCKHOLM HOOK – from R515
Every new home needs somewhere to hang the keys, the coat and the beach towel. The Stockholm range covers all three, from the Single Hook (R515) to the 3 Hook (R1,545), which is made from stainless steel so it won't rust, even out by the pool.

13. STRATA WOODEN TRAY – R455
Small price, big workload. This little oak tray has a built-in divider, so it can sit by the door for keys and sunglasses, hold stationery on a desk or serve snacks.

14. SKOPPIE | STEEL DUSTPAN & BRUSH – R1,295
Yes, a dustpan. Hear us out. The Skoppie is our tribute to the classic South African steel dustpan: galvanised steel, a solid oak brush and a hook so it can hang on the wall. A housewarming gift with a sense of humour, made to last a lifetime.

Statement gifts for someone special

When the gift needs to say a little more. Both lamps have aluminium shades spun by hand in Cape Town, a craft very few workshops still practise.

15. ATLAS LAMP – R5,200
Our most premium lamp to date. A conical aluminium shade, hand-spun in Cape Town using a process a lot like pottery, sits on a solid oak base, finished with a small brass stud. Choose from three oak finishes and five shade colours.

16. ISO LAMP – R2,525
A smaller lamp for a bedside, desk or bookshelf. Its shade is also hand-spun from aluminium here in Cape Town, a near-forgotten craft, and the base has a cutaway for rings and earrings. There are ten colours and two oak finishes to pick from.
